As we are in another phase of lockdown, every other employee is wondering whether they will go back to the office. There is no doubt that COVID-19 has changed the way companies operate. Every other company has implemented an obligated work-from-home policy; therefore, remote work is not a discrete style of work anymore. It has become a critical necessity for firms and entrepreneurs who wish to continue to put a positive spin on the effectiveness and profitability that technological advancements bring our society.

Yet again, one has many questions in the mind when it comes to working from home. Is COVID-19 providing the turning point for remote teams in the future? With this sudden change, are corporations ready?

Remote work before COVID-19

While similar in principle, rather than agreeing that doing work outside the workplace is a requirement for the sake of productivity, remote work takes matters a step forward. It allows companies to shift their viewpoint and believes it is ultimately safer for their company to allow workers to work outside of a conventional environment. Before the pandemic, some companies believed in remote working.

According to those companies, when self-driven people get to choose where and when they work, they seem to be more successful without any unexpected distractions.

This demonstrates that the future of remote work has increasingly evolved, and with good reasons. Businesses of all kinds of corporate, public, non-profit, or start-up start to realize the inherent benefits of incorporating remote teams into their corporate strategy.

Are corporations ready for work from home?

As we are aware of the major effect of the coronavirus pandemic, a massive number of people are working from home which ironically is the new normal these days. But in the beginning, due to traditions and rigid rules, corporations were unwilling to allow workers to work from home. As the pandemic has forced them to stay inside their homes, employees have no option left other than working remotely

Organizations are now seeing the extremes of their previous face-time-obsessed ways. The conference your boss wanted you to attend probably should have been just a slide deck on your screen that you clicked-through.

Coronavirus pandemic pushes employees to rethink nearly every aspect of business life. Even if the workers go back to the office, it might not be the same. It is safe to say that the pandemic work from home has proved profitable.

Is working from home the way of the future?

Truth be told, no one is completely sure about the future of working from home after a pandemic. But we can consider the perfect situation where corporations acknowledge that working remotely is not that terrifying as it seems it leads to an expansion in the global average number of businesses that support flexibility.

Furthermore, working remotely can open new opportunities such as offshoring. Geographical location isn’t an issue; businesses can build teams in other countries easily. While doing so, they have access to a massive number of qualified candidates. After all, having an unlimited recruiting ground not limited by geography implies there are endless opportunities.

Industries are now in the mode of building the necessary IT infrastructure services, which has been the most substantial constraint in virtual work environment integration to date.

Companies around the world already encourage work from home to different extents, the notion is all positioned to become a much more significant aspect of many businesses. Even those in the technology industry, where it has been the trend for several years. And not only between startups but also among powerhouse companies such as Google.

Why is remote working becoming more popular?

As we are well aware of the situation with the pandemic, businesses are changing their route towards remote work. Normally, working from home allows workers the opportunity to work away from the workplace. While the trend towards remote work does not quite fit every company, it does fit those who are in software-reliant sectors.

Flexibility- A Major reason working from home is getting more attention is because it provides flexibility. Working remotely helps businesses money with in-house infrastructure and on the internet. Employees who work according to their terms also get happy and are expected to stay with the company.

Productivity- It has been observed that remote work increases productivity. Traveling brings added pressure to the people and works from home can alleviate that stress. There seem to be a lot of obstacles at work that impede productivity which includes gossip, early morning meetings, and music blaring in the background. For some employees, it has been a relief that no one comes up to their work station anymore and asks them for some work to be done.

Recruitment- Some of the young talents appreciate the idea of working from home. Fresh graduates do not have enough resources to move to a big city, so they prefer the idea of remote working which saves them money. Companies that offer work from home have a greater chance to recruit talent. This approach works remarkably well when the focus is technical personnel.

Low Employee Turnover- It has been noted that businesses that promote work from home had less employee turnover than companies that do not encourage it. It may seem like a slight difference, but it is a strong indication of the association between the two variables. Many companies are beginning to offer remote work that will provide them loyalty from the employees.

What percentage of jobs are remote?

Times have changed, with the help of technology anyone can complete their daily tasks at home with ease. Statistics on working from home show that such a type of work has been expanding ten times faster than most other workforce areas. It also informs us that full-time workers are four times more likely than part-timers to be offered remote work.

A large number of people prefer working from home full-time. Small businesses are more likely to sign up remote workers because employees cost less as businesses do not have to spend in office buildings, pay bills for power, or purchase as much equipment.
